Fostering isn't a lifetime commitment, it's a commitment to saving a life!
Can you provide temporary care for a homeless cat (or mom cat with kittens)? Dog? There are many pets in McHenry County who need a little love from a foster family before they go on their way with a new forever home. We usually have cats & kittens that need foster homes, but at times may have puppies and dogs that need temporary care.
Sometimes we have mom cats with kittens (or pregnant moms about to have their kittens) – a foster home is much better and safer for these cats, rather than a cage at an animal shelter.
We may occasionally have a sick cat who needs some TLC and time to recuperate from their illness. Fostering allows these kitties to get better in a home environment, and prepare them to move on to a new life with a new family.
Foster durations usually range from 2 weeks to 4 months, depending on the age and condition of the animal. (Moms with newborn kittens need a foster home for about 2 months, until the kittens are big enough to take care of themselves.)
